How can you make a difference?

The WASH Specialist reports to the Chief, Field Office (Chief of Rakhine Field Office) who is at Level 4 for guidance and general supervision. The Specialist supports the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH programme within the country programme. The Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes, to facilitate the administration and achievement of the WASH-related output results in the country programme.

Minimum requirements:

Education: An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering or another relevant technical field.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field combined with (2) additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. (Please note that the flexibility clause shall not be applied to external applicants, including TAs and affiliate staff.)

Work Experience:

  • DEVELOPMENTAL: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required.
  • One year of deployment in a developing country is required.
  • HUMANITARIAN: At least one three-month deployment mission in a humanitarian situation (with UN-Govt-INGO) is required.

Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.

Desirables:

  • Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
  • Experience in managing WASH programmes in conflict-affected or high-risk contexts.
