Paralegal
LOCATION: Onsite at NRA Headquarters, full-time, M-F
The Paralegal provides legal research, analysis, document preparation, and administrative support to attorneys in the Office of General Counsel. Key responsibilities include supporting corporate, charitable, lobbying, and regulatory compliance filings, as well as general paralegal and office duties. The finalist will be subject to pre-employment credit and background checks.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform legal research, writing, and analysis using LexisNexis, Westlaw, and other legal research platforms.
- Under the supervision of an attorney, prepare, review, and file corporate, charitable, lobbying, and other governmental registrations, reports, and filings.
- Support corporate governance functions by assisting secretaries of NRA funds, Board committees, and governing bodies of related organizations (including preparation of materials, agendas, and minutes).
- Draft, format, and manage a wide variety of legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, contracts, leases, and technical memoranda.
- Provide general administrative and word processing support, including production of reports, special projects, and analyses as requested.
- Serve as a point of contact for research, analysis, and preparation of legal documents and information requests from legal staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SCOPE: Requires regular interaction with employees across NRA divisions, NRA members, the general public, and federal and state governmental agencies and organizations.
Physical demands are typical of a professional office environment and include occasional bending, lifting, standing, and handling of files and reference materials. The role requires the ability to work efficiently under occasional time pressures while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate's degree and Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program, or an equivalent combination of education and significant law office experience.
- Two to three years of experience providing legal research, analysis, and document support, preferably in a corporate, non-profit, or regulatory/compliance environment.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Commissioned as a Notary Public, or eligible for commissioning. Salary is budgeted at $50,000/year
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of legal processes, corporate governance, and regulatory/compliance filings.
- Proficiency in legal research platforms (LexisNexis, Westlaw) and Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work efficiently under occasional time pressure.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and professionally with attorneys, staff, NRA members, and external parties.
- High attention to detail and accuracy; ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision while producing high-quality work.
- Familiarity with document management systems, e-filing platforms, or entity management/compliance software is a plus.
NOTE: The current incumbent also serves as a Notary Public for the organization
