About Our Accounting Manager:

Elephant Insurance is seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Ledger Accounting Manager to lead our accounting team, making them essential to the success of our Finance department. The ideal candidate will have 7-10 years of accounting experience, including at least two years in a management role, with a strong background in ERP systems, specifically Sage Intacct. This role is essential to ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cash management, and robust internal controls. This role reports directly to the Controller and has responsibility to lead a staff of three. 

This role is hybrid with a single “Connected Week” of 3 days each month in the Elephant office in Richmond, VA. Other occasional in office days for training or accounting operations support may be required. Otherwise, the role, and the wider Finance team, is work from home.

What We’re Looking For:

• Oversee and manage all General Ledger activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.


• Lead and supervise the Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions to maintain timely and accurate processing.


• Manage cash management activities, including cash flow forecasting, bank reconciliations, and daily cash operations.


• Oversee fixed asset accounting, including asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and related reconciliations.


• Review and approve General Ledger account reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy. 


• Manage external filings including annual 1099 reporting, sales and use tax, insurance premium tax.


• Mentor, coach, and develop accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.


• Deliver timely and accurate monthly financial close procedures.


• Ensure proper accounting through collaboration with the Controller and other Finance Managers on emerging accounting topics including changes in guidance and local new business initiatives.


• Serve as the primary point of contact for the Sage Intacct ERP system integration and ownership, driving system optimization and ensuring seamless integration with accounting processes.


• Make and implement recommendations to improve processes, procedures and internal controls.


• Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to senior management as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.


• 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or management role.

• Extensive experience with accounting software, Sage Intacct ERP preferred, including administration and process improvement.


• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.


• Proven expertise in managing AP, AR, cash management, fixed assets, and General Ledger reconciliations.


• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team. · Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.· Exceptional communication skills, capable of working effectively with all levels of the organization.

In-Office Requirements:

• 
  While this role, and the wider Finance team, are primarily work from home, occasional time in-office will be required for certain meetings and team building activities throughout the year, as well as approximately 3-4 days per month during our company “Connected Days.”
