Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring vent experience and Epic proficiency for a 13-week night shift contract.

Details

• Night shift schedule: 3x12s, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Unit functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
• Patient population includes post-surgical, bariatric, and trauma patients, including chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
• Typical patient ratio is 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Unit includes 2 beds designated for chronic trach patients requiring CPAP and BiPAP support
• Equipment used includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tool, PICC line, and multi-lumen catheters (MML)
• IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration)
• Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting support for increased patient care tech coverage
• Charting system: Epic (experience required)
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
• Floating within skillset required

Requirements

• Active Virginia state or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Ventilator care experience required, specifically for chronic trach patients
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Experience with respiratory support modalities including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Experience with Rapid Response and Code team activation
• Epic EMR experience required
• Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
• Two professional references required for consideration

• Large acute care facility with over 700 licensed beds, designated as a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-recognized, and a teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
• Advanced specialty services include bariatric, trauma, and surgical care
• Responsibilities include medication administration (cardiac drips, no titration), isolation precautions, and telemetry management across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown settings
