MITRE's Missile Defense Program is seeking an experienced engineer who can deliver technical expertise and provide technical leadership in support of the Aegis FMS and Aegis GUAM Project and sponsor.

We seek an experienced technical leader and a critical thinker with technical skills and a demonstrated track record of fostering, promoting, and fielding innovative ideas and solutions. As a Lead Engineer based in Dahlgren, VA (at a minimum of 75% time, but prefer 100%); this work location is key to effectively fostering sponsor relationships and shaping the work program.

Key Functions:

  • Direct support to the MDA Aegis program office in integration and development of software baselines for the Aegis Weapons System
  • Serve as the Technical Lead for Japan FMS and GUAM activities as well as the on-site rep with Japan and GUAM sponsors
  • Lead MITRE efforts/technical feasibility studies and engaging with Senior Navy/MDA stakeholders
    • Example studies: Radar Integration, Assessment of Alternatives, Requirements Verification, Anti-Tamper, Spectrum, other Specialty Engineering areas
  • Address SPY-7 radar technical issues, including onto Combat Systems integration and support environment and qualification testing / verification of radar requirements
  • Contribute to key systems engineering documentation including functional/performance/facility requirements, architectures/designs, and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) to verify capabilities
  • Coordinate/Integrate Aegis and Navy capabilities within the broader Missile Defense System and across DoD Services/COCOMs
  • Provide combat system requirements engineering and management expertise in support of missions, system-of-systems, advanced ship combat system, and combat system integration
  • Identify technical issues/risks and propose mitigation solutions as differentiated products to achieve MDA outcomes
  • Collaborate with MDA sponsors, Industry Partners, Other Government Agencies, and other FFRDC/UARCs
  • OCONUS & CONUS travel may be required up to 5-10% as part of assigned tasking

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering and 10 years of related experience; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience
  • Ability to work independently and closely with a sponsor in an advisory role
  • Ability to be present at MDA location in Dahlgren, VA at minimum 75%
  • Experience with Navy or Aegis Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs
  • Experience implementing engineering strategies to achieve critical design milestone reviews
  • Expertise developing key systems engineering documentation including functional/performance/facility requirements, architectures/designs, and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) to verify capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering and 10 years of related experience; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience
  • Prior Experience with Aegis Combat Weapons Systems and Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (ABMD)
  • 10+ Years working DoD Acquisition / Systems Engineering for Navy or MDA Systems
  • Knowledge of Aegis, Navy or MDA radars and Integration with Combat Systems with experience in one of the following: fleet operations, systems engineering, missile systems, Aegis Qualifications
  • Experience leading MITRE efforts/technical feasibility studies and briefing sponsors
  • Ability to be present at MDA location in Dahlgren, VA full-time (100%)
  • Ability to collaborate with MDA sponsors, Industry Partners, Other Government Agencies, and other FFRDC/UARCs
