Adjunct Faculty Member

Contract type: Part-time – Sessional.

Location : Virginia, James Madison International Study Centre - This position is an on-site role.

JOB OVERVIEW:

Experienced and motivated instructors are needed to teach in-person courses in the James Madison University International Study Center in Harrisonburg, VA. for 2024-25. The JMU ISC is an academic Pathway program providing courses to international students in English language skills, academic skills, and U.S. culture. We are seeking candidates to teach in an adjunct capacity on a by-semester basis. Available class sections will vary based on enrollment needs and cannot be guaranteed. ABOUT THE ROLE:

• In-person classroom teaching 3-12 credit hours per week (1-4 skills-based classes per semester in listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, research & documentation, learning strategies, or U.S. culture)
• Full responsibility for class preparation, instruction, assessment, grading, and student support as needed
• Minimum of one scheduled office hour per week and/or by-appointment availability
• Participation in faculty/staff meetings and teaching-related initiatives
• Regular submission of lesson plans and other class materials as requested

ABOUT YOU:

• Master’s Degree
• Minimum of two years of English language or closely-related teaching experience in a classroom setting
• Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English
• Master’s Degree in TESOL, Education, or closely-related field OR a Master’s Degree plus Graduate Certificate in TESOL
• Experience working with multicultural, multilingual, and/or multinational populations
