Automation Engineer
Amazon is seeking an Automation Engineer to support our Transportation & Logistics network within the Engineering, Maintenance & Asset Management team. You will design, implement, and optimize automated material handling and sortation systems that power our fulfillment and delivery operations. Responsibilities include PLC programming, controls integration, robotics interfaces, data driven troubleshooting, and root cause analysis to improve uptime, throughput, and safety. You'll collaborate with cross functional teams, lead continuous improvement projects, and contribute to scalable, innovative automation solutions in a fast moving, customer obsessed environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement automated material-handling and sortation systems for transportation and logistics operations.
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and associated control hardware.
- Integrate robotics, sensors, and industrial networks to ensure reliable, scalable automation performance.
- Perform data-driven root-cause analysis to improve equipment uptime, throughput, and safety.
- Lead and support commissioning, testing, and validation of new automation projects.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and safety teams on continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, schematics, and standard operating procedures.
- Train maintenance technicians and operators on automated systems and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and Amazon engineering guidelines.
- Support capacity expansion and network optimization through innovative automation solutions.
Required Skills
- PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
- HMI configuration and troubleshooting
- Industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, fieldbuses)
- Robotics integration and motion control
- Electrical design and reading schematics
- SCADA or supervisory control systems
- Data analysis for reliability and throughput optimization
- Root-cause failure analysis (RCFA)
