Our Clinic will be located on our Center for Pets Campus in the beautiful and friendly city of Lynchburg, VA.
It’s an exciting time to join our team! Our new 12,000-square-foot regional veterinary clinic is set to be completed in November, with a planned opening in January 2027.

Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT)
Position Summary
The Lynchburg Humane Society is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our team at the new Margaret Terrell Belcher Osteen Regional Veterinary Clinic, scheduled to open in January 2027. This 12,000-square-foot veterinary clinic will provide affordable veterinary care to pets throughout our region while supporting the Lynchburg Humane Society's mission of keeping pets healthy, families together, and reducing pet homelessness.
As an LVT, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care, supporting veterinarians during examinations and procedures, educating clients, and helping ensure a positive experience for both pets and their families. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment focused on accessible veterinary care and community impact.
About the Clinic
The Regional Veterinary Clinic will provide:
- High-volume, high-quality spay/neuter services
- Preventative and wellness care
- Sick pet appointments
- Soft tissue surgical procedures
Our goal is to increase access to veterinary care, improve animal welfare, keep pets in loving homes, and support shelters throughout the region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Obtain patient histories and accurately document medical records.
- Perform physical assessments and monitor patient health status.
- Collect and prepare laboratory samples.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinarians and permitted by state regulations.
- Assist with diagnostic procedures, including radiography and laboratory testing.
- Provide nursing care for hospitalized and recovering patients.
Surgical Support
- Prepare patients for surgery, including pre-operative treatments and monitoring.
- Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in accordance with clinic protocols and state regulations.
- Monitor patient vital signs before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- Maintain accurate anesthesia and treatment records.
- Assist veterinarians during surgical and medical procedures.
- Client Communication and Education
- Educate clients on preventative care, vaccinations, medications, nutrition, and post-operative instructions.
- Communicate treatment plans and discharge instructions clearly and compassionately.
- Support clients in accessing affordable veterinary resources and services.
Clinic Operations
- Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ensure exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites remain clean, organized, and stocked.
- Assist with inventory management and supply ordering.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, DEA, state veterinary regulations, and clinic protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff training.
- Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with veterinarians, veterinary assistants, client service staff, and shelter personnel.
- Contribute to a positive, supportive, and mission-focused workplace culture.
- Assist with training and mentoring veterinary assistants and support staff as needed.

Requirements:Qualifications
Required
- Current Virginia Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) credential in good standing or LVT school student who has completed and passed their pharmacology courses.
- Excellent communication and client service abilities.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to compassionate, fear-free handling techniques and high-quality veterinary care.
Preferred
- Experience in shelter medicine, high-volume spay/neuter, or community veterinary medicine.
- Experience with electronic medical record systems.
- Experience educating clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Fear Free Certification and/or Recover CPR Certification.
- Strong anesthesia monitoring and patient care skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to safely handle animals of varying sizes, temperaments, and medical conditions.
- Ability to work in a veterinary environment with exposure to animal dander, cleaning chemicals, and zoonotic diseases.
