Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A school district in Virginia is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support K-12 students, including those transitioning into higher grade levels. This position is a full-time contract role running from August 11, 2025, through June 1, 2026, with an anticipated schedule of 7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week. The exact campus locations and grade levels remain to be determined, but the caseload may include older high school students requiring individualized and classroom interpretation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide sign language interpretation services on a one-on-one basis as well as in classroom settings.
• Assist students, staff, and educators to facilitate effective communication.
• Perform light paraeducator duties as needed to support student learning and engagement.
• Adapt to the needs of diverse learners, including those transitioning to higher education levels.

Qualifications:

• Combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation with specialized training and considerable experience in sign language interpreting.
• Must possess or be eligible for Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification or an equivalent recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing.
• Candidates with VQAS Level II must obtain Level III certification within two years of hire following Virginia Department of Education regulations.
