Performs intermediate skilled work operating medium weight motorized vehicles and equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, Removes leaves and snow; pours concrete, and assists other crews with equipment maintenance.

The essential functions of the job are not limited to those listed in the job description. The City retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.
When assigned to the Public Works Department:- Repairs, installs and maintains the citys sewer system, storm drains, roads and bridges, sidewalks and other infrastructure.
- Locates the marked utilities; cuts asphalt; digs ditches; installs sewer taps and mains; locates water and gas lines to avoid damage; works on emergency sewer repairs; sets up work zones; repairs storm drain boxes and manholes; frames up storm drain boxes; mixes cement, concrete and mortar; cleans up the jobsite; builds braces and supports for concrete pads and walls and removes after completion; builds sidewalks, tops, boxes, curbs, and floors with concrete blocking; bricks up walls and boxes; demolishes structures by locating utilities; tears down houses; hauls off the houses; rakes out yards; seeds and covers with straw.
- Trims, removes, fells and prunes trees, shrubs, etc.
- Assists with the maintenance of traffic control devices; and maintains street markings and traffic signs by painting lines, school zone markings and repairing or replacing damaged signs.
- Performs on call duty as assigned.
- Performs miscellaneous duties such as making minor repairs to assigned vehicles and equipment to ensure proper operating efficiency; recording operating data and maintaining accountability of log sheets, supplies, and miscellaneous items to comply with section requirements; and assisting in training and instructing other personnel in proper operation and utilization of vehicles and equipment in order to maintain skilled operating section.
- Provides emergency response during severe weather (snow, floods, storms, etc.).

Education and Experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above Certifications/Licenses
High School Diploma or GED, and two to four years of experience.- Valid Drivers License (Class A CDL) with acceptable driving record according to City Criteria. (Note: When hired for Public Works a CDL Learners permit is required within 30 days of hire and a CDL license within 90 days of hire.)
- Forklift certification.
- Flagger certification.
- Confined space, trenching and shoring certification.
- Inmate training.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- All OSHA required training.
- NIMS ICS 100/IS700.
Job Knowledge
Basic familiarity with the work to know common principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems. Reading

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work requires very heavy physical effort, exerting over 100 lbs. occasionally, 50-100 lbs. frequently, or up to 20-50 lbs. constantly.
- Adequate vision, hearing and talking to drive and communicate effectively with others.
- Constant need for fine dexterity.
- Frequent standing, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching, bending, and twisting.
- Occasional sitting, carrying, climbing and balancing.
- Rare need to crawl.
NON-PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Responsible for appropriate use and maintenance of City equipment, tools and other resources, including work time.
- Regular and predictable attendance is expected.
- May experience frequent time pressure, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, working closely with others as part of a team, tedious or exacting work, and a noisy/distracting environment.
- Rarely experiences irregular work schedule/overtime.
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE
Typically uses vehicles and medium to heavy equipment in the performance of maintenance duties; power saws, block and tackle, hydraulic saws, chippers, stump grinders etc.; and any other equipment as appropriate or required. WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is performed outside, in a vehicle or on equipment where there is daily exposure to respiratory and physical hazards, and noise and vibration. There is constant exposure to mechanical hazards and explosives, and frequent exposure to electrical hazards, communicable diseases, physical danger, extreme temperatures and wetness/humidity. There is occasional exposure to chemical and fire hazards. The employee is expected to use appropriate protective equipment for the assigned task (hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe shoes, etc.); and any other equipment as apparent or assigned.
