Regulatory Quality Systems Specialist

Location: Newport News, VA (Onsite) Department: Quality Assurance / Food Safety Type: Full‑Time

✨ What You’ll Do

• Own daily QA/QC activities on the production floor

• Maintain audit‑ready quality systems and documentation

• Serve as trained backup for routine lab testing and basic instrument verification

• Support food safety programs with PCQI‑level understanding

• Partner with QA leadership to strengthen compliance, consistency, and continuous improvement

Preferred Experience

• Background in edible oils, dressings/sauces, beverages, dairy, or ingredient manufacturing

• SQF or BRCGS internal auditor training

• Experience with method verification, calibrations, SPC/control charts, sampling plans, and measurement uncertainty

• Exposure to label/claims review and supplier verification (FSVP basics)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field (or equivalent experience)

• 2–5 years of QA/QC experience in food or ingredient manufacturing

• Hands‑on experience operating and maintaining common food lab instruments

Responsibilities

Quality Systems & Compliance

• Execute and maintain the Food Safety Plan (FSMA 21 CFR 117): monitoring, verification, corrective actions, reanalysis cadence, and training records.
• Run the hold/release process for bulk and finished goods; evaluate COAs, in-house data, deviations, and change control; document disposition decisions.

Laboratory Competency (Backup Coverage)

• Auto-titration for acid value, free fatty acids, peroxide value; pH meter use and calibration
• UV-Vis spectrophotometry for absorbance-based assays
• NIR/FTIR screening for identity/spec conformance
• Karl Fischer moisture/volatiles; loss-on-drying ovens and balances

Data, Reporting & Collaboration

• Enter, verify, and trend QA/QC data in QMS/LIMS/ERP; maintain master specs and release statuses.
• Train operators/techs on SOPs, GMP checks, and simple analytical tasks; partner with Production, Supply Chain, and Maintenance to prevent recurrence of issues.
