Position Title: 9-month Faculty, English

Department: Humanities, Fine Arts, and Social Sciences

Employment type: Full-time, exempt

Position Purpose: Piedmont Virginia Community College is seeking an innovative and collaborative individual to join the faculty as a nine-month Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor of English .

Appointment Date: August 16, 2026. This position will be responsible for teaching all levels of English courses. Courses may include, but are not limited to, developmental English, English Composition I and II, and Literature. The successful candidate will teach a minimum of 15 credits per semester (fall/spring), which may include day, evening and weekend, off-campus, or distance education courses . The successful candidate will also carry out other essential job functions of full-time faculty.

PVCC desires applicants with a commitment to the community college mission; teaching, learning, and student success; integration of learning outcomes assessment into course development and teaching; use of current and emerging technologies to enhance instruction; and other responsibilities that contribute to the progress of the college. Finalists will be invited to present a teaching demonstration.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Teach English courses using a student-centered approach
• Develop and update curriculum, ensuring alignment with current and emerging technologies
• Utilize various instructional methods, including technology-enhanced learning, to accommodate diverse student needs
• Assess student learning outcomes and provide timely feedback to promote student success
• Maintain office hours and advise students regarding academic and career pathways
• Engage in professional development and stay current in the field
• Participate in in departmental meetings, college committees, and community outreach activities

Special Assignments

KSA's/Required Qualifications

• Master of Arts/Fine Arts degree in English or English Literature, or Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in English or English Literature
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Experience working with diverse student populations
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college
• Competency in the use of instructional technologies and Learning Management Systems
• Teaching experience with face-to-face and online/distance modalities

Additional Considerations

• Demonstrated expertise in ESOL/ESL instruction, including working with multilingual learners and supporting language development across diverse student populations
• Experience advising and mentoring college students
• Willingness to take an active role in departmental leadership and curriculum development
• Experience in college classroom instruction with evidence of leadership and collaboration
