Pay Rate: $26.00 per hour
Office Location: Portsmouth VA

Status: Full-Time
Shift: ALL (Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:45 PM)
Security Clearance: Not Required

Position Summary

The Temporary Services Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting temporary electrical systems aboard vessels and in shipyard settings. This includes generators, power modules, cables, and components necessary to support ongoing ship repair and construction activities.

Journeyperson Guidelines

Journeyperson 4

• Leads teams and conducts advanced training for J1–J3 electricians
• Expert in interpreting schematics, electrical layouts, and standards (NAVSEA, OSHA)
• Diagnoses electrical issues to the component level
• Sets up generators and power mods per NSI and government requirements
• Drafts and submits Condition Found Reports and test documentation

Journeyperson 3

• Independently installs temporary electrical services and equipment
• Mentors junior electricians and troubleshoots systems to the component level
• Strong understanding of NAVSEA 009-08, 009-28, 009-74
• Proficient in reading schematics and executing installations from layout

Journeyperson 2

• Works with limited supervision to assist with complex installs
• Assists in troubleshooting and setting up equipment
• Reads electrical schematics and performs basic diagnostics
• Guides J1 electricians and ensures compliance with safety regulations

Journeyperson 1

• Installs temporary services under direct supervision
• Reads marine chemist certificates and performs safe work practices
• Navigates ship layouts and maintains clean, safe job sites
• Understands electrical PPE, tool care, and compartmental navigation

Requirements

• Working knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items 009-08, 009-28, 009-74
• Ability to work in confined spaces, tanks, voids, and elevated locations
• OSHA, PPE, and WAF training (must be current)
• Rapid Gate access or eligibility
• Effective written and verbal communication in English

Physical Demands

• Must be able to: lift, carry, walk, kneel, stoop, crawl, climb, and work in varied conditions
• Work requires use of hand tools and climbing aboard ships
