PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Assignment Length: 13-week travel nursing contract
• Start Date: August 25, 2025
• End Date: November 24, 2025
• Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia healthcare jobs)
• Unit: 25-bed Medical Progressive Care Unit (Step-down/PCU)
• Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1910-$1960
• Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
• Charting: Epic EMR
• Orientation: 24 hours (plus additional hours for required modules)

PCU RN Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Virginia or compact state
• Minimum 1 year of recent PCU, progressive care, or step-down nursing experience
• BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Proficiency with Epic EMR charting system
• Skilled in dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, and cardiac drip management (no titration)
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Ability to float to other PCU or Medical Surgical units as needed
• Willingness to work at least 1 holiday during the assignment (2 during winter holidays)

PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with complex medical conditions in a progressive care/step-down setting
• Monitor and manage patients requiring telemetry, non-invasive airway management (CPAP, BiPAP), and various oxygen therapies
• Administer IV drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, etc.) and manage trach and vent-capable beds (not ICU level)
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physicians, residents, therapists, pharmacy, and social services
• Document patient care accurately using Epic EMR
• Float to other PCU or Med Surg units as needed; adapt to varying patient ratios (goal 1:4, current 1:5)
• Participate in unit-based initiatives and support a teaching-focused environment
• Maintain infection control and isolation precautions according to hospital standards
