The Office of the University Registrar actively supports and leads change while serving as a strategic partner to those the Office serves, focusing on ways to become more efficient, effective, and improving services to University constituents in meeting the needs of an evolving higher educational environment.
About the Position:
The Degree Audit Analyst is responsible for building the most complicated degree evaluations and is the primary technical liaison for the degree audit platform. This position is also expected to support the curriculum approval process by editing and building degree evaluations based on curriculum updates, bringing any issues to the attention of the Sr. Degree Audit Analyst and Assistant Registrar, and taking the initiative to test and troubleshoot updated requirements in the degree audit system.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain degree audits consistent with degree requirements specified in the University Catalog. Assist with problem-solving degree audit issues as they occur. Test degree evaluations thoroughly as necessary (new or adjusted audits, system updates, etc.). Work with Assistant Registrar for Degree Compliance and Registrar's IT staff to identify and resolve technical issues that affect the degree audit system. Develop expertise with Stellic. Accurately translate degree requirements into Stellic. Refer to Assistant Registrar for difficult cases which cannot be readily resolved;
- Work with auditors, other sections of the Registrar's Office, and outside departments as necessary to maintain proper degree evaluation performance. Assist with reporting and other duties related to degree evaluations (e.g., athletic audits and special programs). Assist other auditors with reporting as needed and work with IT to write new reports for all Degree Auditor and Award Coordinators to use. Work with the Assistant Registrar for Degree Compliance and Registrar's IT staff to identify and resolve technical issues;
- Serve as the lead degree audit analyst in the areas of pathway and contract-based programs (e.g., Accelerated Master's, ADVANCE Pathways, BIS contracts). Partner with outside departments and other sections of the Registrar's Office to support the pathway program degree audit related efforts and development. Develop expertise in the assigned pathway and contract programs. Participate in meetings and communication with the appropriate units to develop degree audit related processes for these programs. Serve as the primary point of contact for the units involved;
- Process complex academic records transactions that will have a special effect on the degree audit. This may include substitutions/waivers, Reduction of Credit, or other exception paperwork, so subsequent graduation processing is not held up or jeopardized by inaccurate handling of these transactions. Also, the transactions are clear to other staff and the students for whom they are processed; and
- Develop and maintain a highly detailed level of knowledge regarding all academic programs at the university. In particular, maintain expertise on the requirements students must fulfill to graduate and the academic policies that affect those requirements. Accurately identify the academic requirements of Mason's degree programs, especially as they may change with each catalog year.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in a related field;
- Must employ logic to solve complex problems, and have strong analytical skills;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Ability to prioritize, establish goals, and see tasks through to completion;
- Must have a deep understanding of how various kinds of requirements work together to create academic programs;
- Must have a facility with student information systems and Microsoft Office;
- Must be able to work successfully despite numerous interruptions and a hectic pace;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
- Customer service experience, especially with an assertive clientele. Customer service may occur via phone calls, email, and in-person communication;
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field;
- Experience with Ellucian Banner student information system;
- Experience building degree evaluations; and
- Work or other experience resolving complex problems using logic.
