The Winery at Bull Run in Centreville, VA is seeking a motivated, organized, and experienced professional to lead and facilitate all aspects of Tasting Room and facility operations. This includes building brand awareness and exceeding guest expectations by executing continued staff training and development to enhance sales, service, and visitor experience. This unique position provides multiple opportunities for continued professional growth within the organization.
Primary Relationships
Qualified candidates will be responsible for training and supervision of all tasting room personnel and will report directly to the Tasting Room Manager. Additionally, the PT Assistant Manager will work collaboratively with multiple departments to implement marketing and sales initiatives for wine club growth, promotion of public events, and other special projects.
Part-Time Tasting Room Assistant Manager
Job Summary
The Part-Time Tasting Room Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the Tasting Room Manager in supervising day-to-day operations in the tasting room retail sales areas throughout scheduled shifts. This includes building brand awareness and exceeding guest expectations by working with and through the staff to enhance sales, service, and visitor experience. The Tasting Room Assistant Manager is also responsible for supporting and reporting the revenue and wine club growth goals while supervising staff and operating expenses.
Key Relationships
The Part-Time Tasting Room Assistant Manager reports directly to the Tasting Room Manager and is responsible for shift supervision of Wine Sales Associates and Utility Team members. The Part-Time Tasting Room Assistant Manager may communicate with other department heads in the absence of the Tasting Room Manager as necessary and will regularly communicate with the General Manager.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervise tasting room sales areas and employees in day-to-day operations during scheduled shifts.
- Create a positive and respectful work environment for the tasting room staff, by leading through example, consistent with the organization’s values.
- Assist the Tasting Room Manager by providing support and guidance in the training of team and ensures adherence to all SOPs, company policies and governmental regulations.
- Understands and possess the ability to train associates on the sales processes and customer service skills resulting in club memberships and increased sales.
- In the absence of Tasting Room Manager, is responsible for the team and supervises quality of performance.
- Immediate and respectful positive and constructive feedback of employee performance with proper communication on feedback to Tasting Room Manager.
- Proficient in operating and troubleshooting tasting room systems and software including point of sale (Commerce 7), reservation booking platform (Tock), and task management platform (Hot Schedules) with the ability to train staff on the functions applicable to their role.
- Proficiency in opening and closing procedures, including end of day cash deposits and reconciliation and accurate end of day sales reporting in Hot Schedules Logbooks.
- Completes daily opening and closing checklist items in Hot Schedules Task Lists.
- Maintain neat and organized presentation of tasting room/retail sales premises including the merchandising of products.
- Support and monitor the Tasting Room and retail sales areas to achieve sales and marketing initiatives.
- Encouraged to make recommendations for increasing revenue and wine club growth.

Job Requirements
• Education: High School or equivalent
• Experience: Minimum (1) one to (2) two years of relevant winery, hospitality or retail experience preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to follow through on projects with minimal supervision
• Enthusiasm for wine in general and knowledge of winery brand and its products in particular
• Relaxed, friendly and professional demeanor
• Able to interact effectively with staff, other departments within the winery as well as agencies/vendors/customers
• Must be 21+ years of age
• Must be able to stand for extended hours as well as be able to lift 40lbs.
Job Type: Part-time, hourly
Schedule: 20-30 hours per week, weekend availability required
Compensation: from $14/hour
Additional Compensation: Wine club sales commission
