Insight Global is looking to hire a Directional Drill Locator in support of a multi-utility construction client of theirs. This is a full-time, on-site role ideal for individuals with experience in subsurface drill guidance and a strong understanding of safety practices.

The Directional Drill Locator is responsible for guiding and tracking the drill head during horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations. This role supports construction and utility installation projects by ensuring the drill follows the planned bore path, avoiding existing underground utilities and maintaining safety and accuracy throughout the drilling process.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate HDD locating systems (e.g., DigiTrak, Subsite) to monitor and guide the drill head in real time.
• Interpret and follow staked utility layouts and bore plans to ensure accurate drilling.
• Communicate continuously with the drill operator to adjust depth, pitch, and direction as needed.
• Conduct site inspections to verify bore path conditions and identify potential hazards.
• Accurately document bore path data, including depth, pitch, and any deviations from the plan.
• Collaborate with construction crews, engineers, and project managers to support efficient project execution.
• Follow all safety protocols and assist in maintaining a safe work environment.
• Respond to field challenges and make real-time decisions to avoid utility strikes or delays.
• Assist with pre-bore planning and post-bore documentation and reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience operating HDD locating systems (e.g., DigiTrak, Subsite) in active construction environments.
• Strong understanding of underground utility systems and directional drilling practices.
• Ability to read and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and staked layouts.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong attention to detail and situational awareness in the field.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and emergency response.
• Previous experience in utility construction or directional drilling preferred.
• Certification in HDD locating or underground utility safety is a plus.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Ability to distinguish safety colors with 20/20 vision (corrective lenses allowed).
• Capable of lifting up to 35 lbs and working outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions.
• Comfortable working near heavy equipment and in noisy, dusty environments.
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
