Hardware Engineer Chief

We are seeking an experienced On-Premises Storage Hardware Engineer to support and maintain our large IT enterprise's storage infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and security of data storage within our enclave-protected on-premises environment. The position requires a combination of strong technical skills and the ability to work well within a team environment that prioritizes security and reliability. This will either be in Bethesda, MD or McLean, VA.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support the design, implement, and maintenance of storage solutions that meet enterprise-level requirements within an enclave-protected environment.
- Support the management and optimization of storage hardware, which includes SAN, NAS, tape libraries, and other storage technologies.
- Work closely with the IT security team to ensure storage solutions adhere to stringent security protocols and are compliant with industry standards.
- Monitor storage performance and execute preventive maintenance to ensure high availability and minimal downtime.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware-related issues, including replacing or upgrading storage components as necessary.
- Collaborate with vendors to resolve hardware issues and stay updated with the latest technology advancements.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of storage hardware.
- Participate in the planning and execution of data migration and data redundancy strategies.
- Provide technical recommendations and guidance on storage infrastructure to IT support teams.
- Assist in disaster recovery and data backup processes.
- Maintain a comprehensive inventory of storage hardware and a meticulous record of maintenance activities and system changes.
- Work with systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of storage solutions with the overall IT infrastructure.
- Participate in on-call rotations for emergency support and scheduled maintenance outside regular business hours.
Qualifications
Required Education:
- Bachelors and eighteen (18) years or more experience; Masters and sixteen (16) years or more experience; PhD or JD and fifteen years or more experience.
Desired Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Required Experience:
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in storage hardware engineering and support.
- In-depth knowledge of on-premises storage hardware technologies including SAN, NAS, and various forms of direct-attached storage.
- Experience with storage networking technologies and protocols.
- Familiarity with data encryption methods and secure storage best practices within protected enclave environments.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Vendor-specific certifications such as those from Dell EMC, NetApp, HP, IBM, or similar are highly desirable.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy equipment as necessary.
Desired Experience:
- CompTIA Storage+.
- SNIA (Storage Networking Industry Association) Certified Storage Networking Expert.
- Strong background in data encryption, secure storage practices, and compliance standards.
Clearance:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active TS/SCI with the required poly.
