Job Description:

Hutco is seeking qualified applicants for the Pump and Valve Mechanic, the Pump and Valve Mechanic is responsible for overhauling, assembling, and testing various types of shipboard and industrial pumps and valves. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the mechanical reliability of shipyard operations.

Essential Functions and Purpose:

• Perform overhaul and testing of pump systems, including close coupled, reciprocating, rotary, gear, and vacuum pumps.
• Accurately use precision tools to measure, repair, and diagnose components.
• Submit condition reports (CFRs) with dimensional information and recommendations.
• Identify replacement parts, read technical manuals and blueprints.

Qualifications & Skills:

• High School Diploma or equivalent and minimum 5 years’ shipyard experience.
• Must meet all Journeyman Pump Machinist 3 requirements.
• Must be able to lead small teams and complete jobs with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work from tech manuals, EPCPs, PCPs, and CWPs.
• Proficient with OSHA and NAVSEA Standard Item requirements.
• Familiarity with equipment set-up, job tracking, and part ordering.
• Experience with tools including micrometers, indicators, calipers, and valve-specific equipment.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform tasks involving: carrying, lifting, climbing, crawling, stooping, crouching, pulling, kneeling, talking, seeing, and hearing.
• Must be able to board vessels and work in tight, confined areas.
• Work involves exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, and vibrations.

Responsibilities:

• Assemble and machine components according to technical drawings.
• Maintain clean and safe job sites.
• Ensure WAFs are current and compliant.
• Wear appropriate PPE and comply with safety protocols.
• Coordinate with supervisors for task assignments and completion.

Working Relationships:

• Reports to Inside Machine Shop Foreman / General Foreman.

Additional Requirements:

• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must be able to work evening and weekend shifts.
• Must be able to travel up to 30%.
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment.
