The Software Architect – SME Level (EA Liaison) serves as a senior technical advisor bridging Enterprise Applications Support (Task 2) and Enterprise Architecture (EA) functions for the Army National Guard (ARNG). This role analyzes hosting and integration requirements for enterprise applications and ensures they are accurately reflected in EA frameworks and DoDAF artifacts. The architect evaluates cross‑system dependencies, validates solution architectures, and ensures alignment with functional, security, and scalability requirements. As a key liaison, the position drives architectural consistency across the enterprise portfolio, provides guidance on software design patterns, and supports major technology initiatives through technical and managerial leadership. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical liaison between Enterprise Applications Support and Enterprise Architecture functions.
- Analyze hosting requirements, infrastructure constraints, and system needs to ensure alignment with EA frameworks and DoDAF artifacts.
- Evaluate application dependencies, integration points, and cross‑system impacts to inform architectural decisions.
- Coordinate with application development teams to ensure proposed architectures meet functional, security, and scalability requirements.
- Advise teams on software design patterns, technology standards, and enterprise alignment across the ARNG portfolio.
- Provide technical and managerial leadership for major tasks, projects, or technology initiatives.
- Establish goals, plans, and execution approaches that meet enterprise architecture and project objectives.
- Support architectural governance efforts to maintain consistency across applications and domains.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise IT, systems engineering, or architecture.
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, application hosting, and DoDAF frameworks.
- Experience assessing system dependencies, integration requirements, and infrastructure constraints.
- Ability to validate architecture designs against functional, cybersecurity, and performance requirements.
- Knowledge of cloud architectures and multi‑environment hosting strategies (AWS and Azure).
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills for cross‑team coordination.
- Proven experience providing technical/management leadership for major technology assignments.
- Required Certifications: AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, TOGAF, Security+.
- DoDAF certification.
- Experience working with DoD, Army, NETCOM, or ARNG enterprise architectures.
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud designs, application modernization, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Experience supporting large‑scale enterprise portfolios with cross‑domain architectural alignment.
- Strong analytical ability to identify risks, dependencies, and architectural gaps.
