The Conservation Data Systems Advisor assists in the development and strategic planning of a centralized conservation data system at TNC. As a part of the Conservation Data Team in the Chief Conservation Office (CCO), they will support the development of a holistic data strategy that for key conservation business processes throughout the year that enable executives, leaders of portfolios, and conservation teams to generate and use evidence to adaptively manage TNC's portfolio to achieve our greatest collective impact.

We're Looking for You:

The Conservation Data Systems Advisor supports the Director of Data Systems by managing an initiative to develop a comprehensive data system that supports management processes at all levels of the organization. They bring their experience in portfolio management of conservation strategies and programs to assess the relative merits of various technical solutions available to meet TNC's data needs for adaptive management of conservation work. They serve as a technical resource on platforms and tools used for managing conservation data. They engage directly with stakeholders in regional and global conservation staff to collate the set of business needs that should be met by the central conservation data system, and collaborate with staff from TNC's central functions to develop a conservation data strategy that drives successful adoption and use of the data system.

This position is open remote globally where TNC has an established entity for candidates that can have core work hours between EST - PST. This is a 2-year termed position.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Conducts a needs assessment for TNC's central conservation data system to meet its goal of providing data for adaptive management processes throughout the year.
  • Collaborates with IT colleagues to research the range of technical platforms and tools readily available and solutions that can be developed for tracking conservation data.
  • Assists in developing reports, presentations and assessments on the data systems initiative.
  • May serve as a team leader for assigned projects; may require gaining cooperation of team over whom there is no direct supervisory authority.
What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, international relations, international development, social science, natural science, ecology or related field and at least 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Experience in research, critical analysis, and evaluating information from divergent sources and compiling it into cohesive reports.
  • Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material.
  • Experience presenting to and/or communicating with executives, leaders of portfolios, conservation teams and/or similar audiences.
  • Experience with time management.
Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of a various array of systems, platforms, and tools used to track conservation data, including data for management decision-making.
  • Experience with AI tools geared toward the creation and maintenance of data systems.
  • Experience with human-centered design principles and processes in a nonprofit setting.
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Critical analytical thinking and excellent English writing skills are essential.
  • Ability to sensitively advise other staff on how to effectively engage with internal and external parties.
  • Ability to develop and drive new ideas and approaches.
  • Ability to work well in a highly matrixed, decentralized and collaborative organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet time sensitive deadlines.

Salary Information:

This is a 2-year termed position.

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $83,700 - $125,700 . This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
