General Laborer
Job Summary
Structural Mechanical is seeking a dependable, hardworking General Laborer to support our ship repair services team. This position assists skilled tradespeople with a variety of tasks on ship repair job sites, helping ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate is reliable, physically capable, safety-focused, and eager to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Assist structural, mechanical, and welding crews with daily job site activities.
Load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, and equipment.
Prepare work areas by cleaning, setting up equipment, and removing debris.
Operate basic hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Support installation, maintenance, and repair of structural steel and mechanical systems.
Perform material handling, lifting, and staging of equipment.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific requirements.
Assist with demolition, rigging, and general construction tasks as assigned.
Work effectively as part of a team while taking direction from supervisors and skilled tradespeople.
Perform other duties as needed to support project completion.
Qualifications
Must be able to work on a military base.
Previous construction, industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical experience is preferred but not required.Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.
Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn new skills.
Reliable transportation to job sites.
Ability to pass required pre-employment screenings, including drug testing, if applicable.
OSHA 10 certification is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in physically demanding environments for extended periods.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and in industrial environments.
Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and fall protection.
