Candidate must be located in DMV area and able to commute to Stafford, VA office.
Our team provides focused agile software development and maintenance for CODIS, a mission-critical application for the FBI. Today, CODIS is a client server application developed using Microsoft .NET that supports a database repository of DNA profiles from individuals, unsolved crime scene evidence, and missing persons. CODIS software allows local, state, and national laboratories to compare DNA profiles electronically, thereby linking serial crimes to each other and identifying suspects by matching DNA profiles from crime scenes to individuals profiles. Additionally, the CODIS software is used to assist with the identification of unidentified human remains, missing persons and disaster victims.
The Junior Software Developer will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, and debugging new software applications or enhancements to existing systems. The role requires applying foundational software development practices to deliver reliable and secure solutions under the guidance of senior developers. The developer will work closely with technical staff to resolve issues, integrate applications with enterprise platforms, and contribute to documentation and training efforts.

Responsibilities
- Developing code, test, and debug software components and enhancements in line with business and technical requirements.
- Collaborate with technical teams to analyze issues, troubleshoot software problems, and deliver effective resolutions.
- Implement desktop design, testing, and security lockdowns to meet organizational standards.
- Assist with integration of applications with automated patching, deployment technologies, and standard software packages.
- Support software documentation, including user manuals and technical guides.
- Participate in the automation of application and configuration deployments and updates.
- Contribute to performance, quality, interface, and security improvements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Security Clearance: Active Secret Clearance required.
- Minimum of 1 year of software development experience (or equivalent through certifications, internships, or practical projects).
- Foundational knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC), coding standards, and debugging practices.
- Ability to apply fundamental concepts, processes, and best practices in technical assignments.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work under supervision.
- The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience or foundational knowledge of:
- Languages & Frameworks: .NET, C#, VB.Net, C++, Java (SpringBoot), JavaScript, Blazor
- Development Tools: MS Visual Studio 2022, Swagger, Git for Windows
- Databases: Microsoft SQL, ElasticSearch/OpenSearch
- Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS (development & maintenance of components), Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker
- Security & Integration: Keycloak, RabbitMQ, Linkerd, NGINX
- Data Formats: XML/XSD, JSON
- Operating Systems: Linux
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
