Role Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Software Engineer to join our team at DirectViz Headquarters. In this full-time position, you will leverage 8-10 years of software development experience to architect, design, and implement robust software solutions that meet complex government contracting requirements. As a Senior Software Engineer , you will take ownership of technical initiatives, mentor junior team members, and drive the adoption of best practices across the development lifecycle. This role requires a strategic mindset combined with hands-on technical expertise to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and develop enterprise-grade software applications using Python and modern development frameworks, ensuring adherence to security, scalability, and performance standards
• Lead the design and implementation of cloud-native solutions on AWS infrastructure, leveraging services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, and CloudFormation
• Drive technical decision-making for application architecture, including microservices design, API development, and integration patterns
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to mid-level and junior engineers, conducting code reviews and promoting engineering excellence
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, DevOps engineers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications
• Establish and enforce coding standards, development workflows, and CI/CD pipeline best practices
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues across the full stack, performing root cause analysis and implementing sustainable solutions
• Optimize application performance through profiling, monitoring, and implementing efficiency improvements
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for system architecture, APIs, and deployment procedures
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating and recommending tools and frameworks that enhance development capabilities
• Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives to ensure project delivery milestones are met
• Ensure compliance with government contracting standards, security protocols, and regulatory requirements throughout the software development lifecycle

Qualifications

• 8-10 years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated progression in technical complexity and leadership responsibilities
• Expert-level proficiency in Python programming, including advanced concepts such as decorators, generators, context managers, and asynchronous programming
• Extensive hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing applications on Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform
• Proven track record of architecting scalable, distributed systems and microservices-based applications
• Strong understanding of software design patterns, object-oriented programming principles, and SOLID design principles
• Experience with RESTful API design and development, including authentication, authorization, and API versioning strategies
• Proficiency with version control systems (Git), branching strategies, and collaborative development workflows
• Solid understanding of database technologies including both relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB) databases
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes or ECS
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices, including automated testing, deployment pipelines, and infrastructure as code
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex issues across distributed systems
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in team environments and manage multiple priorities in fast-paced settings

Certifications / Licensure

• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
• AWS Certified Developer Associate
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional level preferred)
• AWS Certified Application Architect (or equivalent advanced AWS certification)

Required Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related technical field

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
• Experience working on government contracts or within regulated industries requiring compliance with federal standards
• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and security-first development methodologies
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK
• Knowledge of additional programming languages such as Java, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queuing systems (SQS, SNS, Kafka)
• Contributions to open-source projects or active participation in technical communities
• Compliance with DoD 8570 cybersecurity certification requirements at the CSSP Incident Responder level, including certifications such as CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), CFR (CyberSec First Responder), CHFI (Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator), or CySA+ (CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst)
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and serving in technical leadership roles within agile teams

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to work full-time from DirectViz Headquarters
• Overtime is not allowed for this position
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
• Ability to pass a background check as required by government contracting standards
• Willingness to adapt to evolving project requirements and technology stacks as mission needs dictate
