Labor & Delivery RN Job Details

• Assignment Type: Travel nursing job
• Location: Charlottesville, VA 22908 (Virginia healthcare jobs)
• Facility Setting: Labor & Delivery Unit
• Start Date: September 15, 2025
• End Date: December 15, 2025 (option to extend through January 3, 2026)
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:00)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Orientation: 36 hours
• Patient Ratio: 1-2 patients per nurse
• Unit Details: 8 private labor rooms, 4 triage beds, 2 OB operating rooms
• Average Annual Deliveries: 2,000
• Weekend Coverage: Required (6-7 weekend shifts per contract)
• Float: Required to Mother/Baby and NICU (feeder/growers)
• Self-Scheduling: Available
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1800 - $1840

Labor & Delivery RN Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience
• Active Registered Nurse license (VA or compact state; pending accepted but must be in hand before start)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification
• Epic charting experience required
• Ability to cross-train to Mother/Baby unit
• BSN preferred
• Professional references required
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)

Labor & Delivery Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to laboring and postpartum patients, including high-risk and low-risk populations
• Circulate for Cesarean sections and assist in OB PACU, triage, and special procedures (cerclage, tubal ligation, fetal transfusion)
• Monitor and interpret fetal heart rate patterns, responding promptly to abnormal findings
• Administer medications and therapies such as magnesium sulfate and insulin drips
• Perform newborn assessments and support baby-friendly protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including midwives, maternal-fetal medicine, and support services
• Float to Mother/Baby and NICU units as needed within scope of practice
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation using Epic
• Participate in self-scheduling and work every other holiday as required
