A high-volume Level I Trauma Center in Richmond, VA is seeking a Director of Emergency Services to oversee a 56-bed Emergency Department (84 total care spaces) serving over 80,000 annual visits , including pediatric emergency care and significant behavioral health volume . This role is ideal for an experienced ED leader who thrives in a high-acuity, fast-paced urban environment .

• Facility Size: 782 beds

• ED Beds: 56 (84 care spaces total)

• Annual ED Volume: ~80,000 visits

• Pediatric ED: 12 beds (~23% of volume)

• Behavioral Health Pavilion: 137 beds (14% of ED volume)

• Key Specialties: Cardiac, Ortho, Burn, Trauma

• FTEs: ~130 staff (3 ED Managers + 6 CNCs reporting to Director)

• Vacancy Rate: 30 new grads onboarded this year

• Reports to Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

Responsibilities

• Provide 24/7 operational leadership for the Emergency Department

• Drive quality improvement , patient experience , and regulatory compliance

• Manage staff development, employee engagement, and succession planning

• Oversee budget, staffing, and resource allocation

• Build strong relationships with physicians, hospital leadership, and staff

• Ensure delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality emergency care

• Monitor ED metrics and performance improvement programs

• Participate in hospital-wide committees and strategic planning

Qualifications

• BSN required

• Master’s degree preferred (MSN, MBA, or MHA)

• 3+ years of ED nursing leadership experience required

• Experience managing high-volume EDs or as a strong ED Manager in a large facility

• RN license in Virginia or eligibility

• BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC certifications required

• Proven ability to lead in high-acuity, diverse, urban healthcare environments
