Geotechnical Laboratory Technician

Geo-Technology Associates, Inc (GTA) is seeking a Laboratory Technician for our office in Sterling, Virginia. Laboratory Technicians will assist the Lab Manager in performing quality control.

Responsibilities Include:

• Perform laboratory testing as assigned by Laboratory Manager. Typical tests include soil moisture, moisture density tests, California Bearing Ratio tests, grain size testing, limits testing, peel and shear tests
• Handle, sort and maintain concrete and other construction material specimens delivered to our laboratory. Follow and maintain log in procedures
• Work in the concrete room prepping and performing tests on concrete cylinders, cores, masonry block, and prisms for compressive strength testing
• Perform quality control testing using the load frame in out laboratory. (Temperature, Slump, Air and Unit Weight and Molding Cylinders) for Concrete, Grout and Mortar in the field
• Complete daily reports and testing procedures

• Ability to learn and apply ASTM and other laboratory test procedures
• Perform maintenance and calibrations on laboratory and field equipment

• Perform data entry, record keeping, test reporting, and other duties
• Perform some calculations of test data under supervision of Laboratory Supervisor.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver's license in good standing
• Ability to achieve applicable certifications within 90 days after hire date
• Reliable, punctual, ability to take direction from others
• Ability to use and maintain equipment and supplies safely and effectively
• Physically capable of lifting 50lbs or more on a regular basis
• Basic math and computer knowledge
