Lead Primary Montessori Guide
Job Description
Job Description
As Primary Lead Teacher, you are the heartbeat of the classroom—planning and sustaining a beautifully prepared environment for ages 3–6, mentoring your classroom assistants, and serving as a trusted partner to families.
Planning & Instruction
Implement progressive AMI Montessori lessons across all classroom areas and maintain a carefully prepared, aesthetically inviting environment
Guide individual child plans using observations, albums, software, and portfolios; maintain accurate progress records
Manage classroom flow, rhythm, and the work cycle with skill and calm
Order materials and manage the classroom budget responsibly
Family Communication
Build warm, consistent communication with each family; send weekly newsletters and lead parent conferences
Educate and engage families in the Montessori philosophy; respond to questions promptly and professionally
Leadership & Professional Responsibility
Mentor, train, and hold assistants accountable with care and directness
Participate in staff meetings, professional development days, school events, and community functions
Complete a minimum of one week of on-site preparatory work during Summer Session
Comply with all VDOE continuing education requirements and school policies
WHO YOU ARE
Required
AMI or AMS Montessori Certification in the 3–6 age range (AMI strongly preferred)
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
At least 1 year of Montessori classroom experience, including managing assistants
Strong communication skills with children, families, and colleagues; experience with diverse communities
The Mindset We Need
Growth-oriented, calm, and deeply committed to Montessori as a philosophy—not just a credential
A team player who understands that in a small school, every role is equally vital
Honest, direct, and open to feedback from administrators, families, and your own reflection
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
We offer a competitive package that goes beyond the paycheck:
Salary: $38,000–$46,000 based on certification and experience
401(k) with Safe Harbor match: 100% of first 3%, 50% of next 2%
