• Job Title: Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) – Locum Tenens
• Location: Galax, VA 24333 (Southwestern Virginia healthcare jobs)
• Setting: Behavioral Health Unit (12 beds, adult population)
• Assignment Type: Locum tenens / travel contract
• Start Date: August 25, 2025
• End Date: November 24, 2025
• Duration: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend/as needed
• Electronic Health Record: Paragon

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active, unencumbered RN license in Virginia (Virginia RN jobs)
• BLS certification (required)
• CPI or Handle with Care certification (required)
• 1-2 years of recent behavioral health nursing experience
• Medical RN experience required
• Completion of Virginia Central Registry, fingerprinting, and background checks as required for behavioral health staff
• Strong de-escalation, communication, and assessment skills
• Ability to delegate to techs and manage patient isolation/restraint as needed

Psychiatric RN Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to adult behavioral health patients
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
• Utilize de-escalation techniques and manage crisis situations effectively
• Delegate tasks to support staff and maintain patient safety
• Administer medications and monitor patient responses
• Document care and interventions in the Paragon EHR system
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support patient recovery
• Float to other units as needed and perform charge RN duties if experienced
