Job Title: PARAPROFESSIONAL
General Description
Provide support services for teachers and administrators by performing instructional and clerical assignments within established procedures and standard practices.
Reports To: Building principal
Work Schedule: 7 hours per day, 10 months (183 days)
Essential Duties:

- Provides one-on-one tutoring and small group instructional assistance under the supervision of the classroom teacher
- Assists in preparing and organizing instructional materials
- Provides instructional assistance in the computer lab
- Provides instructional assistance in the library media center
- Assists in parental involvement activities
- Participates in professional development activities as deemed necessary by the supervisor
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Possesses some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques and clerical procedures
- Possesses some knowledge of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others
- Demonstrates ability to supervise children in the absence of a supervisor
- Demonstrates ability to perform basic clerical tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing and ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Demonstrates ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner
Education and Experience:
- Required: 2-year degree or 48 hours of completed college coursework at an accredited college or university
- Preferred: Prior experience working with groups of children
- Physical Requirements:
- Demonstrates overall good health
- Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate and interact with others.
Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Sussex
County School Boards policy manual.
