Civil Litigation Paralegal
A law firm in Portsmouth, Virginia, seeks an experienced litigation paralegal. The firm handles general civil practice and cases in state and federal courts, focusing on personal injury, mass torts, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, and products liability.
The ideal candidate has experience preparing cases for court, drafting legal documents, pleadings, discovery, calendaring, and other litigation paralegal duties.
Key duties include case planning, legal research, client interviews, fact gathering, drafting and analyzing legal documents, and assisting attorneys with case management.
Responsibilities include managing all aspects of cases, discovery, settlements, mediation, trial preparation, and administrative tasks. Strong written and verbal communication and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required.
Candidates must have excellent organization, communication, and writing skills. Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe, and document management systems is essential.

Key Responsibilities - Litigation Paralegal
- Process new cases and prepare files for attorney review
- Communicate with clients
- Calendar SOLs and trial dates
- Summarize depositions and legal documents
- Subpoena and track medical records and update chronologies
- Organize evidence
- Coordinate independent medical exams and prepare medical packages
- Draft legal documents, discovery, motions, and pleadings for attorney review
- Prepare demand letters and review document productions
- Calendar depositions, hearings, pre-trial agreements, and deadlines
- Prepare hearing exhibits and court documents
- Evaluate ongoing medical records
- Occasional travel to legal functions, hearings, and trials required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, and client management systems required
