Critical Systems Technician III, HVAC

Responsibilities
- Lead and perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all HVAC equipment, including air and water-cooled chillers, centrifugal and screw package chillers, natural gas boilers, unit heaters, electric duct heaters, cooling towers, and water pumps.
- Operate, maintain, and upgrade building automation systems, including pneumatic, DDC, and variable frequency drive controls.
- Oversee HVAC air distribution systems, including air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), fans, and related devices.
- Monitor compliance with contractual commitments for mission-critical mechanical services and maintenance.
- Provide guidance, leadership, and technical expertise to junior technicians, supporting their development and training.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and system performance.
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency service requests as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor to support facility operations.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 7 years of large commercial HVAC service experience required; 8 years preferred.
- Completion of a basic air conditioning theory class.
- Proficient in the use of HVAC diagnostic tools and instruments.
- Experience with DDC, pneumatic, and variable frequency drive controls.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office or related software.
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Certification required.
- Current/active Virginia Journeyman HVAC license required.
- OSHA Certification required.
- Valid Virginia or Maryland driver’s license required.
- Ability to pass any required client background checks or training.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance preferred.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work in environments with moderate noise levels.
