Certified Nursing Assistant

Certified Nursing Assistant - UVA Student Health and Wellness Center

The University of Virginia's Department of Student Health and Wellness is seeking a full-time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). CNAs assist with caring for patients. The CNA is part of a team and establishes priorities by collaborating with other team members. The CNA follows protocols for obtaining vital signs and performing simple procedures and receives formal supervision from the Nursing Supervisor and Director of Nursing Services. Responsibilities include:

• Preparing patients for appointments (obtaining vital signs and entering into EMR);
• Maintaining clinic flow;
• Assisting staff with procedures (EKGs, ear irrigations, collecting lab specimens);
• Ensuring patient safety;
• Maintaining infection control standards;
• Preparing patients for discharge and home care (crutches, patient teaching, follow-up appointments, transportation);
• Maintaining unit supplies and equipment; and
• Other tasks as assigned.

The salary range for this position is $18-$23/hour and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is an overtime eligible position with UVa benefits. Employees benefits package highlights include:

The University will perform background, health and drug screens on all new hires to the Department of Student Health and Wellness prior to employment. This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas now or in the future.

Minimum Requirements

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent

Experience: One year of experience as a CNA preferred

Certification required. Valid License as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in the state of Virginia. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Physical Demands

Job requires frequently bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs and > 100lbs (Home Health Aide only). May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
