Preschool Support Teacher
Summary Primary Objectives:
- To provide a safe and quality preschool experience for the children in their care by supporting the Lead Teacher and interacting with the children in developmentally appropriate ways recognizing the individuality of each child.
- To promote a positive and responsive environment for the children, their families, and staff.
- Comply with all policies, procedures and guidelines issued by Walnut Grove Children's Learning Center.
- Completing approved training with a minimum of 16 hours of professional development each year.
- Supervising and ensuring the safety of all children.
- Collaborate with teachers to monitor the development of each child.
- Work with children in the classroom to promote their learning and development.
- Assist the teachers in classroom routines and responsibilities.
- Understand the teacher's routine regarding delivering a lesson plan and supervising the class if the teacher is absent.
- Keep a clean classroom by sweeping the classroom floor, wiping and sanitizing tables, helping to keep the toys and classroom materials clean and in working order.
- Using positive discipline/behavior guidance techniques with the children.
- Being responsible for reporting to the director any equipment repairs or replacements needed, maintenance needed in the room or elsewhere in the building or playground, and supplies that need to be reordered.
- Generally promoting a good rapport among staff members.
- Attending all staff meetings and programs sponsored by the center.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality regarding children and their families.
- Maintaining professional conduct and attitudes in working with parents and staff as well as visitors and the general public.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of early childhood development and a dedication to continuing to learn new information to provide a quality learning environment for children
- Interpersonal and communication skills (including oral and written expression and comprehension skills)
- Organizational, planning and execution skills (including time management skills)
- Problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills
- CPR, First Aid
