Overview:

Responsible for administering safety performance across assigned Bowman regional geospatial operations with a focus on Land Services (Right-of-Way), Mapping & Survey, Oil & Gas, and Aerial Operations (manned aircraft and UAS). Partners with regional leadership, branch offices and field teams to implement corporate safety programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a proactive safety culture that minimizes risk and reduces workplace incidents.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Direction

  • Partner with regional managers, branch offices and field leadership to integrate safety into project planning and execution at the direction of the senior safety leadership.
  • Promote a strong safety culture centered on hazard recognition, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support implementation of the enterprise Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Provide subject matter expertise for training development and safety program improvement.
  • Influence operational decision-making to reduce risk exposure, not just enforce compliance.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, PHMSA, FAA, EM385-1-1, FRA, MSHA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Support development and implementation of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs).
  • Identify and control high-risk exposures including work zone traffic, remote work, oil & gas hazards, and aviation/UAS operations.
  • Uses regional safety metrics (TRIR, DART, leading indicators) to implement proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support subcontractor safety prequalification, client audits, and corporate safety initiatives.

Do the Work

  • Provide field-level safety oversight and coaching for survey crews, oil & gas operations, and aviation/UAS activities.
  • Conduct jobsite visits, audits, and unannounced inspections across multiple locations.
  • Identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and track systemic trends.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action plans.
  • Deliver safety training, onboarding, and ongoing coaching to field and project teams.
  • Maintain safety documentation, ensure compliance with training requirements, and facilitate safety meetings.
Success Metrics and Competencies:
  • Ability to create Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for high-risk activities.
  • Experience conducting field audits and hazard assessments.
  • Strong communication and training facilitation skills.
  • Ability to influence field personnel and operations leadership.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Reduction in regional recordable incidents and injury rates.
  • Increased reporting of near-miss and leading safety indicators.

  • Consistent alignment with corporate safety standards and operational excellence.
  • Achievement of ≥90% safety training completion and safety meeting participation.

  • Demonstrated expertise in OSHA standards, hazard identification, and SIF prevention.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive safety experience in field-based operations.
  • Experience supporting multi-site or regional operations.
  • Background in geospatial services, surveying, oil & gas, utilities, infrastructure, or aviation operations strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and ISO 45001 preferred.
  • First Aid / CPR / AED preferred.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
  • Willingness to travel frequently (50%-70%) within the assigned region nationwide.
  • Ability to obtain professional safety certifications, as required.
  • Partially indoor professional office environment which may exposure to include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Frequent outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site, to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Frequent travel to field sites, including remote and industrial environments, primarily during business hours, with out-of-area and overnight travel is required according to the needs of the business.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 40 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
