PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1800 - $1840
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (option to extend up to 52 weeks)
• Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 – Virginia nursing jobs
• Setting: Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (18:45 - 07:15); 4x12-hour available
• Hours per Week: 36
• Start Date: October 6, 2025
• End Date: January 5, 2026
• Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Unit Size: 20 beds, including 5 for 24-hour epilepsy monitoring

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Compact or Virginia single state (pending VA single state accepted if traveler holds single state license from a non-compact state)
• Minimum 1 year of recent PCU or stepdown nursing experience
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (required for PCU nursing jobs)
• Epic charting experience required
• Proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response/code teams, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, cardiac drip management (no titration), non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, telemetry, and stepdown care
• Comfortable with a 1:5 patient ratio in a fast-paced healthcare setting
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Must work at least one holiday per 13-week assignment

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult patients with neuro-specific diagnoses, including neurosurgery, stroke, epilepsy monitoring, and medical overflow
• Monitor and manage patients in a busy neuro PCU environment, including 24-hour epilepsy monitoring
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: IV, physical therapy, respiratory, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and more
• Utilize Epic EMR for documentation and patient management
• Participate in rapid response/code teams and adhere to isolation and safety protocols
• Provide weekend coverage as scheduled and float as needed
• Attend orientation and complete required healthcare modules
