Who is VMRC?

VMRC is a Christ-centered, nonprofit continuing care retirement community offering independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care for older adults. The Staff Accountant role primarily assists with healthcare billing and accounting tasks, adhering to established organizational policies and procedures. This position upholds the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all related activities, including billing transactions, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. The Staff Accountant works closely with the Healthcare Billing Manager to advance the organization's overall fiscal operations and regulatory compliance goals.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Must possess 1 to 3 years of experience in accounting and/or healthcare billing.
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing practices, payer requirements, and related compliance standards is preferred.
  • Must have proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting and billing software applications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, are needed.
  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills. Must possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

A. Essential Functions

1. Assist the Healthcare Billing Manager with daily healthcare billing operations, including claims processing, invoice generation, and payment reconciliation.

2. Monitor and maintain accounts receivable records; perform follow-up activities to ensure timely collection of outstanding balances.

3. Record, reconcile, and verify payments received from third-party payers, patients, and other sources.

4. Maintain accurate documentation of all billing transactions and related financial data in compliance with organizational recordkeeping standards.

5. Prepare and post journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.

6. Collaborate with internal staff to research and resolve billing discrepancies, ensuring accurate and timely resolution.

7. Adhere to healthcare billing and privacy regulations, including, but not limited to, HIPAA and applicable Medicare/Medicaid requirements.

8. Provide documentation and support for internal and external financial audits.

9. Participate in special accounting projects and perform additional duties as assigned by management.
