Electrical Controls & Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor
A day in the life
When your day starts on the manufacturing floor, you’re where the action is: high-speed lines running, teams synced up, and safety front and center. You kick off with a brief safety huddle, align electricians, electro‑mechanical techs, and mechanics on priorities, confirm lockout/tagout is followed, and verify critical spares are in stock. Minutes later, you’re troubleshooting a PLC fault on a steel-forming line, coaching a tech through high‑voltage procedures, and coordinating with operations to keep throughput on target. By afternoon, you’re planning a ControlLogix migration, reviewing electrical schematics for a new install, and closing the loop on KPIs—always ready to jump in for an emergency, day or night.
What you’ll lead
- Champion safety and compliance with NEC, OSHA, lockout/tagout, high‑voltage, BRC food safety, GMP, and product quality standards.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Electricians, Mechanics, and Electro‑Mechanical Technicians; run regular safety meetings, inspections, and hazard assessments.
- Own preventative and predictive maintenance programs to cut unplanned downtime.
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and control issues on high‑speed production and steel‑forming equipment.
- Provide 24/7 hands‑on support during failures, startups, shutdowns, and emergencies.
- Program and optimize PLC/HMI, process control, and machine automation; migrate legacy platforms (e.g., Allen‑Bradley PLC‑5 to ControlLogix).
- Partner with operations to lift machine reliability and throughput; track and report maintenance and electrical performance KPIs.
- Scope, plan, and execute mechanical, electrical, and automation projects from concept through commissioning.
- Review electrical schematics, blueprints, and specifications to ensure safe, compliant installations.
- Coordinate vendors and contractors for capital projects and equipment upgrades.
- Drive MRO excellence: set min/max levels, support technical purchasing decisions, and maintain accurate inventory records to prevent shortages or excess while protecting uptime.
- Manage budgets, spare parts inventory, and shop supplies; maintain thorough records (work orders, logs, inspections, documentation).
- Uphold internal controls and Trivium’s core values; model teamwork, respect, integrity, and stewardship of company resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you bring
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
- 3–5 years in industrial maintenance within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
- 2–3 years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Background in steel manufacturing and/or food processing is highly desirable.
- Hands‑on knowledge of AC/DC motors, VFDs, pneumatic/electronic instrumentation, and wireless technologies.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals; CMMS experience for work order management.
- Proven leadership, coaching, and communication skills with a results‑driven, detail‑oriented mindset.
- Thrives under pressure in a 24/7 operation.
Where you’ll work
- Primarily on the manufacturing floor with frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing, and manual dexterity.
- Regular reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; occasional work in non‑permit‑required confined spaces (unless otherwise trained).
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (no continual lifting); good hand/eye coordination required.
- Vision requirements include close and distance vision and color recognition.
- Loud environment—hearing protection and assigned PPE required.
- Temperature extremes may range from below 40°F to above 90°F; atmosphere may contain fumes, dust, and odors.
