Senior Front End Developer

Exiger
McLean, VA

Senior Front-End Developer

Exiger is looking for a passionate Senior Front-End Developer to join our UI team and help build high-quality, user-centric experiences using Angular v18+. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and other developers to deliver intuitive, accessible, and performant web applications that empower users to make better decisions using complex data.

This is a senior-level role suited for someone who can balance hands-on development with mentoring, architecture discussions, and improving our UI engineering practices across teams - with a strong emphasis on building and evolving a shared design system to scale UI development across products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product owners to define user stories and translate them into front-end solutions

  • Develop, test, and maintain responsive and accessible web applications

  • Participate in design and architecture discussions to deliver scalable and maintainable UI solutions

  • Review code and mentor junior developers across the front-end team

  • Troubleshoot issues and squash bugs to continuously improve product stability

  • Recommend and implement improvements to the front-end stack, tooling, and workflow

  • Work closely with the UX team to ensure fidelity to design and an excellent user experience

Design System Engineering Expertise

  • Experience building a design system from the ground up, including setting foundational architecture and scalable component patterns

  • Collaborate closely with the Design System Lead to define system goals, drive architectural decisions, and align with design principles

  • Proficiency with tools like Storybook and Chromatic for building, testing, and documenting reusable components

  • Familiarity with design tokens and the supporting ecosystem (e.g., Style Dictionary, Figma Tokens)

  • Translate Figma component designs into robust, accessible, and reusable Angular components

  • Deep understanding of accessibility best practices (semantic HTML, ARIA, keyboard navigation, WCAG compliance)

  • Maintain and evolve a shared component library within an Nx monorepo, ensuring modularity and maintainability

  • Establish theming and customization strategies to support multiple brands or product variants

  • Serve as a technical champion to support adoption across engineering teams, with clear documentation and feedback processes

Knowledge & Skills

  • Modern JavaScript (ES2015+) and TypeScript

  • Angular (v18+) and component-based architecture

  • Experience with Angular Material and extending its component APIs

  • RxJS and reactive programming principles

  • Modern CSS, including flexbox, grid, custom properties, and responsive design

  • SCSS or other CSS pre-processors

  • RESTful API integration

  • Nx monorepos and module federation

  • Webpack and front-end build tooling

  • Docker for local development and containerization

  • Kubernetes awareness — understanding how front-end apps are deployed and scaled in containerized environments

  • Agile software development practices

Nice to Have (Bonus Points)

  • Experience with GraphQL, Web Components, or custom design systems

  • Experience with React, especially in component or design system architecture

  • Contributions to open-source projects, personal GitHub repos, or technical writing/blogging

Professional Experience Required

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS

  • 4+ years of experience using Angular in production

  • 2+ years working in agile development teams

  • 2–3 years of experience building a design system from scratch for a SaaS product or platform, or leading the development and ongoing maintenance of core components within an existing design system

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, HCI, or equivalent experience

Why Join Us?

  • Work on mission-driven products that make a real impact

  • Collaborate with thoughtful teammates who care deeply about code quality and design

  • Enjoy flexible work arrangements and modern development practices

  • Have the freedom to propose and lead technical initiatives

  • Access to learning budgets, industry conferences, and clear career growth opportunities
