Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $88,000–$120,000
About the Opportunity:
A nationally recognized, employee-owned engineering and building consulting firm is seeking a Building Envelope Restoration Consultant to evaluate, investigate, and restore existing building enclosure systems.
This role focuses on assessing building envelope conditions, identifying sources of deterioration and water intrusion, developing practical repair strategies, and managing restoration projects for commercial, institutional, and other complex facilities.
You'll manage projects from initial assessment through construction, serving as a trusted technical advisor throughout the project lifecycle. Responsibilities include building condition assessments, repair design, construction administration, client consulting, and mentoring junior staff. Key Responsibilities:
Building Envelope Investigation
- Conduct condition assessments of existing building enclosure systems.
- Investigate roofing, waterproofing, façades, glazing, cladding, sealants, balconies, and exterior wall systems.
- Evaluate existing construction documents and field conditions to develop effective repair strategies.
Restoration Design
- Prepare technical reports outlining findings, repair recommendations, and rehabilitation priorities.
- Develop practical restoration solutions for existing building envelope systems.
- Perform technical peer reviews of reports and construction documents.
Design Coordination
- Collaborate with owners, architects, contractors, and consultants throughout project delivery.
- Coordinate repair drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Review shop drawings and submittals for quality and design compliance.
Project Management & Construction Administration
- Perform site observations during construction.
- Prepare field reports documenting project progress and quality.
- Provide technical guidance to contractors during construction.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and client deliverables.
Client Service & Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor on building envelope performance and restoration.
- Present technical findings to clients through reports and meetings.
- Develop long-term client relationships.
- Mentor junior engineers and consultants.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related discipline)
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 5+ years of structural or building envelope consulting experience
- Experience with existing buildings, restoration, rehabilitation, or forensic investigations
- Strong understanding of structural systems and building envelope assemblies
- Experience preparing technical reports and repair recommendations
- Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Commitment to producing high-quality technical work
