CNC Grinding Cell Operator — Metal Components

If you enjoy solving mechanical problems, tuning machine parameters, and seeing finished parts hit spec, this role is for you. Join Amsted Rail Petersburg to operate a cup & cone grinding line that turns raw metal work pieces into precision components for the rail industry.

You will

• Follow plant-wide safety, ergonomics, and environmental practices outlined in the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program.
• Measure and verify part dimensions using gauges against the departmental quality plan; identify defects early.
• Assist with setups and changeovers across work lines/cells.
• Use hand/power tools safely; lift machine parts manually or with hoists/cranes.
• Monitor transfer conveyors and keep material moving.
• Listen for unusual vibration/noise; adjust to correct issues.
• Modify manual/automatic controls to maintain conformance; respond when machines or parts drift out of spec.
• Record production data accurately in the company computer system.
• Understand sequences of operation and required finished dimensions.

In the cell

• Load programs into machine control units and launch jobs.
• Execute preventive maintenance tasks to minimize downtime.
• Diagnose part compliance and equipment problems.
• Replace worn grinding wheels.
• Operate a forklift to stage bins for processing.
• Oversee gantry equipment and interact with load/unload robots.

You bring

• Ability to lift/push/pull 10050 lbs and stay on your feet throughout the shift.
• Readiness to wear employer-provided PPE.
• Mechanical aptitude; prior industrial experience helpful.

• Competitive Pay: Hourly rate considers experience; eligible for annual bonus potential.
