Northrop Grumman’s Law Department is currently seeking a Corporate Counsel, Intellectual Property (IP) who will be responsible for providing expert legal support to one of the Company’s business sectors in the DC metropolitan area. This attorney will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property, Technology and Information Law.
Specific responsibilities include:
Collaborating with and providing strategic counseling to law department colleagues, business partners, and management on a wide range of complex IP issues
Applying expertise in government contract IP matters, commercial transactions, software and other IP licensing, managing global patent and trademark portfolios, protecting information, and managing IP enforcement actions, and managing outside counsel
Develop understanding of Company and Sector’s business, products and technologies and software
Providing thought leadership, driving development and implementation of enterprise-level strategic IP initiatives
Monitoring developments in policy, legal and regulatory requirements in IP and advising leadership and business partners on best practices
Developing and conducting enterprise-wide training on IP topics
We are seeking a candidate with the following background:
Highly motivated individual with strong analytical and process-development skills, clear and strategic thinking, exceptional judgment, sense of accountability, integrity and a record of managing complex IP matters
Ability to provide accurate, timely, and pragmatic advice
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work in a collaborative and inclusive environment, with the ability to engage and motivate others through thought leadership
Strong time-management and organizational skills, responsiveness, and a demonstrated ability to balance multiple competing priorities
Basic Qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree and Bachelor’s degree in an aerospace-related science or engineering field
Active state bar membership and registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
At least 8 years’ IP experience in a law firm, government, or as in-house counsel
Experience in IP-related transactions and negotiations, and/or protecting and enforcing IP rights including patents, trade secrets, data, software, trademarks, and copyrights
Experience working closely with other lawyers, technologists and business leaders on IP issues
U.S. citizenship required. Candidates must have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Significant experience with U.S. government contract IP regulations (FAR and DFARS) and complex issues relating to technical data and computer software
Experience developing and managing global IP portfolios
Active DoD Secret level security clearance
Primary Level Salary Range: $206,900.00 - $297,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
