Kentwood Heights was established in 1983, with 165 current members. As one of roughly two dozen churches in New Kent County, Virginia, we serve an average of 125 weekly attendees through our Sunday service and Life Groups and growing. Most growth is driven by young families with children. Current church staff includes a full time Associate Pastor and a part time Church Secretary and Worship Leader. Our most popular outreaches are VBS, AWANA, Trunk or Treat, and Trail Life.

Senior Pastor Position Summary

The Senior Pastor is called to shepherd the congregation, teach God’s Word with clarity and conviction, lead discipleship and community engagement, and provide visionary leadership that honors our heritage while equipping the church for growth in the years ahead.

Responsibilities

Preaching & Teaching

• Plan and lead the worship services, blending reverence and relevance for a multi‑generational community.
• Teach with depth and clarity, addressing both foundational faith and life application.

Pastoral Care & Presence

• Provide compassionate shepherding through counseling, visitation, prayer, and discipleship.
• Conduct counseling sessions; perform wedding ceremonies; and conduct funerals.

Discipleship & Leadership Development

• Strengthen discipleship pathways for all ages and life stages.
• Mentor staff and equip leaders for service and spiritual growth.

Community Outreach & Growth

• Champion outreach and evangelistic efforts consistent with our mission.
• Engage families and the broader community in meaningful gospel ministry.

Administration & Collaboration

• Oversee church ministries, staff development, church committees. and strategic implementation of goals.
• Ensures the smooth operation of all church functions by proper supervision of all employed staff members and guidance to all church committees.

Qualifications

Spiritual & Personal

• Committed follower of Jesus Christ with a warm and humble shepherd’s heart.
• Strong biblical worldview with an uncompromising view of Scripture as the final authority.
• Servant leader who reflects Christ in personal integrity, relational grace, and pastoral care.

Denominational

• Ordained or eligible for ordination in the Southern Baptist tradition.
• Able to support and uphold the church’s statement of faith and doctrinal positions supported by the BF&M 2000.
