• Location: Galax, VA 24333 (Southwest Virginia healthcare jobs)
• Setting: Behavioral Health Unit – Adult population, 12 beds
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (September 15, 2025 – December 15, 2025)
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), 36 hours/week
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1750 - $1800
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend/as needed
• Call Requirements: As needed
• Electronic Health Record: Paragon

Psychiatric RN Qualifications

• Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Virginia
• Minimum 1 year recent experience in behavioral health or psychiatric nursing
• BLS certification (required prior to start)
• CPI or Handle with Care certification (required prior to start)
• Completion of Virginia Central Registry, fingerprinting, and behavioral health background checks
• Strong de-escalation, patient assessment, and communication skills
• Ability to delegate to techs and manage medical RN responsibilities

Psychiatric Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based care to adult behavioral health patients
• Conduct patient assessments, develop and implement care plans, and document in EHR
• Utilize de-escalation and restraint techniques as needed
• Delegate tasks to support staff and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Monitor and respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies
• Float to other nursing units as needed; maintain flexibility in assignments
• Maintain a professional, non-judgmental approach with patients and colleagues
