Location: Dulles, VA or Laurel, MD (Onsite; potential for 1 remote day/week after ramp period)
Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $110,000–$125,000 base salary
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Benefits: This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k)
Job Description
Addison Group is partnering with a large, growing construction organization to identify a Project Accounting Lead. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced project accounting professional who enjoys mentoring others, partnering closely with operations, and supporting large-scale construction projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
This role will be responsible for coordinating all phases of the construction job costing process, including tracking costs, billings, financial reporting, and compliance. The Project Accounting Lead will also supervise and coach project accountants supporting multiple projects, while partnering closely with project managers and finance leadership to ensure accurate accounting and effective risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate all phases of the construction job costing process for large and small projects
- Categorize, record, analyze, and monitor project costs and billings
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions
- Monitor financial results and support the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of project financial data
- Prepare standard and ad hoc financial reports
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of accounting systems and internal controls
- Support vendor compliance efforts to help mitigate project risk
- Partner closely with project managers to ensure timely and accurate accounting throughout the project lifecycle
- Review and analyze complex accounting issues and help implement resolutions
- Lead departmental initiatives related to process improvements, policy updates, and implementation efforts
- Work with accounting leadership on fiscal strategy and accounting best practices
- Supervise, coach, and provide performance feedback to less-experienced project accountants
- Make independent decisions and execute on resolutions in a timely manner
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Construction Management required
- 5+ years of project accounting experience required
- At least 1 year of leadership experience, including mentoring, supervising, or serving as a team lead
- Strong Excel skills required
- Construction industry experience strongly preferred
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to train and support junior staff
- Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
