Cardiologist (Hampton)
Summary
The Cardiologist will be responsible for consultative services and developing treatment plans for the management of Veterans in outpatient, inpatient, Community Living Center, and emergency department settings. The incumbent will provide evaluations and treatment recommendations regarding patients with cardiovascular conditions.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the US or its territories.
- Residency Training: Completed residency training approved by the VA in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and work on an intermittent or fee basis.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred Experience: Board Certification in Cardiology.
- Physical Requirements: Lifting (up to 45 lbs.), pushing/pulling (1 hour), reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, bending, visual and hearing requirements, and mental/emotional stability.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement until September 30, 2025, or until all positions are filled. The initial referral cut-off is May 30, 2025, with subsequent bi-weekly cut-offs.
- Provide direct patient care in inpatient and outpatient settings, including diagnostic assessments, medication management, ordering tests, and documentation.
- Supervise residents, fellows, medical students, NP/PAs, and other staff as appropriate.
- Provide weekend and holiday coverage for cardiology consultations and inpatient services.
- Participate in performance improvement, quality assurance, and provide leadership and consultation to staff.
- Involved in teaching and supervision of trainees.
