Medical Assistant - Medical Receptionist
Alexandria, VA
Pay from: $21 per hour
Experienced Medical Assistant Medical Assistant - Medical Receptionist
2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant
2+ years of experience as a Medical Receptionist / front desk
2+ years of experience assisting in a medical office
Must have experience giving shots to all ages (shots on adults and infants)
Must have experience with verifying insurances and collecting copays
Must be reliable with consistent attendance and punctuality
Must be confident in their clinical skills DUTIES:
· Greet and prepare patients for visits, including taking vital signs, documenting medical history, and updating information in the EMR system
· Assist healthcare providers with physical exams, in-office procedures, specimen collection, and administering medications or immunizations
· Perform routine diagnostic tests (e.g., EKGs, point-of-care lab testing) as ordered
· Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked exam rooms in accordance with infection control and safety protocols
· Accurately enter and update patient information, medical history, and clinical notes in electronic health records
· Answer and manage multi-line phone systems professionally, routing calls and messages appropriately
· Schedule patient appointments, manage cancellations, and confirm upcoming visits
· Verify insurance coverage, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial plans; collect and input patient demographic and insurance data accurately
· Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, and coordination of care with specialists or outside providers
· Handle patient inquiries regarding insurance, billing, and general clinical questions, escalating as needed
· Support front desk operations including patient check-in, check-out, co-pay collection, and documentation
· Process medical records requests and maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
· Follow up on lab results, prescription refill requests, and provider orders
· Demonstrate consistent reliability through punctual attendance, timely task completion, and strong communication with the care team
