JOB SUMMARY

The Fitness Room Attendant, under the direction and supervision of the Health Club Manager, is responsible for assisting all members in identifying and achieving their wellness goals. All work is performed collaboratively with and in support of other services offered by Williamsburg Landing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Supervises member and guest usage of cardio/fitness area continuously by walking through the area and being available
• Provides one-on-one assistance to members as part of the Special Assistance program
• Maintain a clean and safe environment; completes all assigned cleaning duties including vacuuming, dry mopping, cleaning equipment, cleaning free weight mirror, etc.
• Performs frequent visual inspections of equipment to ensure cleanliness
• Collects, washes, and dries used towels and linens to be folded by the lifeguard on duty
• Answers questions in a customer-friendly manner; notices where members need additional support or may be interested in trying different equipment and provides appropriate support
• Ensures members and guests follow posted rules and policies; follows established policies and procedures for Incident Reporting
• Answers questions and helps resolve member problems and conflicts; informs Health Club Manager of problems and concerns
• Evaluates work processes and methods and submits recommendations to the Health Club Manager for continuous quality improvement
• Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Formal education in physical education, health science, kinesiology, or related field and a minimum of one year of experience working in medical based wellness programs or with older adults preferred
• Relatable fitness professional certification preferred
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid training required or obtained prior to hire date
• Certified Personal Trainer and/or Group Fitness Instructor certifications preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

General knowledge of wellness/fitness needs of senior adults and of program design and testing; general understanding of fitness equipment; ability to safely provide physical assistance to anyone in distress in the area which may include providing CPR, AED, First Aid, or rescue from near-drowning; must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance; general knowledge of physical limitations of older adults is preferred; ability to exercise sound judgment when under stress; proficiency with Google suite programs preferred; possess valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license.
