MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
The Engineering Department at American GFM is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical Design Engineer. Your primary responsibility will be the design, development, and configuration of all aspects of the mechanical design for our line of custom machine tools and supporting equipment. Position will involve machine design, research, analysis, CAD modeling, drafting/detailing, problem-solving, and technical writing.
Required Education & Experience:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from a 4-year accredited college/university.
- 1-3 years of work experience in 3D machinery design.
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills required. Must be self-motivated with a high level of initiative and a proactive approach.
- Advanced user of PC based programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
- Comfortable working with dispersed teams, including field service engineers and shop personnel.
- Experience in the use of mechanical test equipment and operation of various handheld tools.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must have or be capable of obtaining a US passport.
- Must complete a background check and physical.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work safely in a variety of different industrial manufacturing environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of machinery design principles.
- Experience in AutoCAD and Inventor or equivalent software.
- Experience with manufacturing technologies such as general metalworking, welding, and additive manufacturing.
- Impeccable written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong project management and leadership skills.
- Independent, accountable, and capable of working unsupervised.
Responsibilities:
- Detail design of all mechanical components on our custom machine tools. This encompasses large complex structural steel weldments to small precision aluminum components.
- Design of pneumatic and vacuum circuits and creation of schematics to ISO standards.
- Creation of assembly drawings, machine documentation, and user manuals.
- Hands on troubleshooting and diagnosis of manufacturing or design issues with shop personnel.
- Document and maintain detailed records of all processes for internal purposes and customer documentation.
- Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to urgent customer issues.
Travel:
- International and domestic travel is required for this position. Advance notice will be given whenever possible.
- This is a low to medium travel position (~15%) with travel possible throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe.
- Travel compensation and per diem is provided.
