Plant Mechanic Technician
Summary
The Plant Mechanic is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the operation of all plant systems and equipment. Including but not limited to balers, conveyor belts, gearboxes, electrical motors, pulleys, shafts and bearings. This position must respond to all system failures by taking appropriate corrective action by completing or assigning the repairs needed to ensure that systems are operational and are functioning safely and efficiently.
Knowledge
- Basic welding
- Basic 3 phase electrical knowledge
- Safely operates tools and equipment needed during the repair and servicing of equipment.
- Diagnose defects and repair a variety of equipment.
- Basic mechanics
- Technicians are required to provide their own basic tools to perform routine maintenance and repairs of equipment.
Skills
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to perform under limited supervision.
- Ability to work from ladders or raised platforms
Experience
- 2 or more years of relevant work.
Education
- High School or Equivalent
Job Duties
- Performs repairs in accordance with OSHA. (Occupational and Safety Health Act) requirements.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspection (PM); diagnose, repair, and rebuild major equipment/components including but not limited to balers, conveyors, hydraulic power packs, eddy currents, electro-magnetic belts, compressors, trash compactors, motors, wire tie systems, fans, pumps.
- Maintains DEI (Daily Equipment Inspections)
- Establishes and adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules and advises Plant Maintenance Manager if additional work is needed or cannot be completed within the Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
- Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns.
- Requires a flexible work schedule, to include weekends when required.
- Ability to solve complex problems with clear analytical thought, taking into account multiple factors and tradeoffs.
- Ability to analyze test results, machine error messages and information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems.
- Ability to clean, lubricate and adjust parts, equipment and machinery.
- Ability to examine parts for defects, such as breakage and excessive wear.
- Ability to observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions using voltmeters and other testing devices.
- Ability to operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
- Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing or repairs.
- Ability to understand blueprints and manufacturers’ manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery.
- Ability to cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts and assemble new equipment.
- Demonstrate equipment functions and features to machine operators
- Ability to enter codes and instructions to program computer-controlled machinery.
- Ability to perform additional duties as assigned.
- Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift or carry up to 100 lbs
- Must be able to communicate verbally and written.
- Must be able to remain in stationary, standing or sitting positions for prolonged periods.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather condition.
